Cosmetic Surgery (Facelift) - On the sitcom MAUDE/CBS/1972-78 Bea Arthur in the role of the outspoken Maude Findlay was the first prime-time character to undergo a face lift. She justified her need for the operation by saying she felt "Like an old hen with a turkey's neck and crow's feet-I could be the centerfold for the Audubon Society." Maude's facial transformation was achieved by tape and makeup.

In 1984, on the CBS daytime soap opera THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS actress Jeanne Cooper as Kay Chancellor underwent an actual facelift on camera.

TRIVIA NOTE: Plastic surgery is big business in Hollywood with celebrities spending over $100 million annually.
