Dramatic Series - The first dramatic television series was THE QUEEN'S MESSENGER seen in a total of only four homes in the New York Area on September 11, 1928. The sound for the series was carried by radio station WGY and the picture was broadcast from the experimental station. Two cameras were used on the production: one for faces and one for the props. The first regularly scheduled dramatic anthology was the KRAFT TELEVISION THEATRE/NBC/1947-58. It starred John Baragrey in the "Double Door." The first EMMY for the best dramatic series was presented to the ABC Network for its PULITZER PRIZE PLAYHOUSE in 1950. The western adventure BONANZA/NBC/1959-73 was the first dramatic series to be broadcast in color.
