Police Series (Women) - Television's first leading female cop appeared on the 1957 syndicated police drama DECOY (a.k.a. POLICEWOMAN DECOY). Beverly Garland starred as policewoman Casey Jones who worked undercover on the streets of New York.

In 1974, the hour-long police drama POLICE WOMAN/NBC/1974-78 starred Angie Dickinson as undercover policewoman Sgt. Suzanne "Pepper" Anderson who worked Los Angeles Vice Squad.

The police drama GET CHRISTIE LOVE!/ABC/1974-75 starred Teresa Graves as police undercover detective Christie Love, the first black policewoman in a leading role.

A few years later the "woman as cop" theme was explored in the police dramas CAGNEY & LACEY/CBS/1982-89 starring Sharon Gless and Det. Chris Cagney and Tyne Daley as Det. Mary Beth Lacey; the police sitcom SHE'S THE SHERIFF/SYN/1987 starring Suzanne Sommers as a Lake County, Nevada sheriff; and SIRENS/ABC/SYN/1993-95 about the lives of three new female members of the Pittsburgh Police Department.
