Partridge Family Bus -
Multi-colored school bus on the situation comedy THE PARTRIDGE
FAMILY/ABC/1970-74. The Partridge family, a group of pop rock
musicians, needed a vehicle to transport them to Ceasar's Palace in
Las Vegas, so they purchased a used 1957 Chevrolet school bus from
Al's Used Cars (actually purchased from Orange County School
District). The family painted the bus themselves using a geometric
style of the Dutch painter, Piet Mondrian (a la the Who's Magic Bus
or the psychedelic bus driven by Ken Kesey and his Merry
Pranksters).
The rear of the bus displayed both the license plate
NLX-590 and the sign "Careful, Nervous Mother Driving."
After the series ended, the bus was sold over and
over again until ultimately it was found abandoned in a parking lot
at Lucy's Tacos in East Los Angeles. It was junked in 1987.
When David Cassidy, who played Keith Partridge on
the original series, went on a revival tour in 1993, he traveled in
a look-alike bus. Another copy of the original bus can be seen at
Universal Studios in Florida.
