Scratchy
the Cat - Co-star of the violent cartoon cat & mouse (a la 'Tom and
Jerry') show seen on "The Krusty the Klown Show," a
show-within-a-show on the situation cartoon comedy THE SIMPSONS/FOX/1989+.
Two of Itchy & Scratchy's biggest fans were Bart and Lisa Simpson
who lived in the town of Springfield. It seems the more violent "The
Itchy & Scratchy Show" got, the more Bart and Lisa laughed at their
antics.
A typical moment of mayhem occurred on the episode "Why Do Fools
Fall in Lava," when Scratchy the cat pays $5.00 to bungy jump into a
volcano. Subsequently, Itchy the mouse cuts open Scratchy's stomach,
ties his intestines to a bridge and then pushes Scratchy into the
volcano. As Scratchy dangles helpless over bubbling lava, Itchy
pours gasoline into Scratchy's intestines causing him to explode.
Some fun, Huh?
Later in the series, it was revealed that the idea for the Itchy
and Scratchy characters (initially stolen by Roger Myer Sr.) were
actually the brainchild of one Chester J. Lampwick (voice of Kirk
Douglas).
Bart & Lisa's mother, Marge Simpson once compiled a list of the
violent acts in just one episode of "Itchy & Scratchy" They list
showed: 3 Cats blown up, 1 Mice lunched, 2 Dogs tricked, 2 Gophers
buried alive, 3 Eyes knocked out, 2 Disemboweling, and 1 Brains
slammed in car door.
