Cleo the Lion - The
gentle circus lion on the western adventure CIRCUS
BOY/NBC/ABC/1956-58. Cleo was the property of Big Tim Champion
(Robert Lowery), the owner of the Burke & Walsh Circus that roamed
the American frontier at the turn of the century. After Cleo died on
episode No. 3 ("The Great Gambino"), she was replaced by a more
ferocious lion named Nuba who attacked the circus lion tamer aka,
The Great Gambino (played by Anthony Caruso).
Circus Boy rides a circus Lion
Corky Wallace (Mickey Braddock), a ten-year-old boy adopted by the
circus after his parents were killed in a high-wire accident was a
close friend to all of the animals in the circus, including Cleo/Nuba
the lion, Sultan the tiger,
Bobo the chimpanzee (Corky's pet) and
Bimbo the baby elephant.
