Altair  1 - The Altair 1 was the first personal computer ever created. Designed by electrical engineer, Ed Roberts, the Altair I appeared on the January 1975 front cover of Popular Electronics magazine. The name Altair 1 was inspired by the planet Altair VI on the episode No. 34 "Amok Time" (Stardate 3372.7) on the sci-fi series STAR TREK/NBC/1966-69. The planet was later mentioned in Starfleet Academy's "Kobayashi Maru" training simulation. in the motion picture Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan (1982).

TRIVIA NOTE: Altair IV was the forbidden planet in the constellation Aquila in the 1956 movie The Forbidden Planet. See also - ROBOTS: "Robby the Robot"
