Humphrey - Hound dog puppet on THE
MORNING SHOW, a 1950s CBS program that contained news, entertainment
and music. Humphrey, the hound dog was controlled by puppeteers
Bil & Cora Baird who helped their canine puppet carry on
conversations with the likes of newsman Walter Cronkite.
Humphrey and another puppet named, Charlemane the Lion were
introduced on the program to compete with a real animal named J.
Fred Muggs, a monkey mascot who costarred with morning celebrities
who appeared on THE TODAY SHOW on the NBC network.
