Count Duckula - A green-skinned vegetarian vampire
duck (he liked ketchup and broccoli) who lived in Castle Duckula in Transylvania
on the cartoon COUNT DUCKULA/SYN/1988-1993.

So you ask "How did Duckula become a vegetarian?." Well, In vampire circles,
one avoids such things as point wooden stakes or sunlight. But sometimes, they
can't be avoided.
Luckily, for those destroyed by such items, there is a loophole or secret
ritual that can be used to bring a disposed vampire back to life. But first you
need some blood. Unfortunately, during one such ceremony, a bottle of ketchup
was used by mistake and thus was born, Count Duckula, the vegetarian vampire.
Now, instead of blood lust, Dukula lusted after vegetables, money and power.
He managed to get plenty of vegetables, but somehow the money and power kept
slipping through his fingers. Thanks, no doubt, to the bumbling interventions of
Igor, Duckula's dutiful but gloomy butler and Nanny, a large, clumsy, chicken
housekeeper who calls Duckula "Ducky boos.".
The Count's main nemesis, however, is Dr. Von Goosewing who seeks to destroy
Duckula with a wooden stake for all the atrocities committed by Duckula's family
over the centuries.
To escape the clutches of Von Goosewing (and occasional boredom) Duckula uses
a teleportation device to transport his castle anywhere on the planet. The
mechanism is programmed to return Duckula (and guests) home automatically at
dawn, Eastern Transylvanian Standard Time.
Produced by Cosgrove Hall Productions for Thames Television, the Count Duckula
series is a spin-off from episode "The Four Tasks of Danger Mouse" on the
DANGERMOUSE cartoon, wherein super agent DangerMouse was given the task of
retrieving a feather from a vampire duck.

Narrator: |
Castle Duckula, home for many centuries to a dreadful dynasty of vicious
vampire ducks - The Counts of Duckula. Legend has it that these foul
beings can be destroyed by a stake through the heart or exposure to
sunlight. This does not suffice however, for they may be brought back to
life by means of a secret rite that can be performed once a century when
the moon is in the eighth house of Aquarius. |

'Cos he's a vegetari-an. (Aagh!)
And things never run to plan for...

The wild and wacky one they call,
