Ponch and John on Patrol - CHiPsCHiPs - Acronym for the California Highway Patrol and the title of the police drama CHiPs/NBC/1977-83 starring Larry Wilcox and Erik Estrada as police officers Jonathan "Jon" Baker and Francis "Ponch" Poncherello who cruised the Los Angeles highways and byways on Kawasaki 1000's motorcycles looking for motorists in need and chasing law breakers. Other CHiPs officers included Robert Pine as their commanding officer, Sergeant Joe Getraer; Paul Linke as Officer Grossman; Lew Saunders as Officer Gene Fritz; Brodie Greer as Officer Baricza; Brianne Leary as Officer Sindy Cahill; Randi Oakes as Officer Bonnie Clark; Michael Dorn as Officer Turner, Bruce Jenner as Officer Steve McLeish; Tom Reilly as Officer Bobby "Hot Dog" Nelson; Bruce Penhall as Cadet Bruce Nelson; Tina Gayle as Officer Kathy Linahan; Clarence Gilyard, Jr. as Officer Webster; and Lou Wagner as Harlan, the police mechanic who services the CHiPs vehicles. In 1998, the Turner Cable Network TNT broadcast a made-for-TV CHiPs reunion movie with Larry Wilcox and Erik Estrada reprising their roles as officers Poncherello and Baker (now riding supped-up BMW motorcycles).
