Josie and the Pussycats - All-female pop rock
group featured on the animated series JOSIE AND THE PUSSYCATS/CBS/1970-72.

Josie, Melody and Valerie
The members of the Pussycat band included:
- Josie McCoy (Janet Waldo), the ambitious red-haired co-founder of the band.
She is lead vocalist and guitarist.
- Melody Valentine (Jackie Joseph), the dimwitted blond drummer.
- Valerie Brown (Barbara Pariot), the African-American on tambourine.
She is the group's main songwriter.
Traveling along with the band was Alexander Cabot III (Casey Kasem), the
manager and promoter of the all-girl band, Alexandra Cabot, his twin sister
(Sherry Alberoni), Alan M. Mayberry (Jerry Dexter), the Pussycat's roadie,
and Sebastian, the band's cat (Don Messick).
Later, Josie and the Pussycats and her friends
are accidentally trapped in a NASA space capsule and launched into the
vastness of outer space on the sequel series JOSIE AND THE PUSSYCATS IN
OUTER SPACE/CBS/1972-74. Along the way, they meet up with Bleep, their space
mascot who helps them explore the galaxy and beyond.
TRIVIA NOTE: The series was based on the She's Josie comic book character
(debuted in 1963) created by Dan DeCarlo for Archie Comics. The
cartoon characters were brought to the big screen in the motion picture
Josie and the Pussycats (2001) starring Rachel Leigh Cook as Josie
McCoy, Tara Reid as Melody Valentine and Rosario Dawson as Valerie Brown.
