Kwai Chang Caine's Flute - On the western adventure KUNG FU/ABC/1972-75 David Carradine played Kwai Chang Caine, a Shaolin Priest who wandered the Old West in search of his brother. In between fighting bad guys, Caine would take a moment to practice his flute which he carried over his shoulder. Over the life of the series, Caine used four flutes ranging from a very small one to a larger one with a bend in the middle to a full length flute which Caine carved during one of the episodes and finally a fourth and tiny flute. Since actor David Carradine was a musician, he decided it appropriate for his character to carry a flute with him. Some of the flutes used on the series were made by actor Michael Greene who carved the instruments from pieces of bamboo grown in a Laural Canyon. The tiny flute used at the end of the series was actually made for Carradine by his friend's Jose Feliciano and Cannonball Adderly.
