"Neither snow, nor rain..." - The official pledge of the United Stated Post Office and one that Cliff Clavin (John Ratzenberger), the verbose postal carrier from the sitcom CHEERS/NBC/1982-93 has devoted his life's work to upholding in between sipping beers at Cheers, his favorite tavern hangout. The postal pledge dating back to Herodotus (484-425 B.C.) states: "Neither snow, nor rain, nor heat nor gloom of night stays these Couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds." On the sitcom THE ROYAL FAMILY/CBS/1991-92 retired mailman Alfonso "Al" Royal (Redd Foxx) had his own motto for cold days: "Be it rain, sleet or snow, the people on my route can wait another day for their mail 'cause I'm freezing my stamps off."
