"Neither snow, nor rain..." - The postal pledge
dates back to Herodotus (484-425 B.C.) who said: "Neither snow, nor rain,
nor heat nor gloom of night stays these Couriers from the swift completion
of their appointed rounds."
The Postal Carrier oath was often mentioned by Cliff Clavin
(John Ratzenberger), the verbose Boston postal carrier from the sitcom
CHEERS/NBC/1982-93 who devoted his life's work to upholding the
principles of the oath in between sipping beers at Cheers, his
favorite tavern hangout.
