Rangers - Minbari based police force seen on the sci-fi series BABYLON 5/SYN/1994-98. Established to keep peace in the galaxy, (a sort of United Nations force in space), the Rangers were directed to patrol the frontier, gather information, act as couriers of sensitive and vital information, and in times of strife, defend the weak and innocent against aggressors. The Rangers later opened their ranks to outsiders and space station commander Jeffrey Sinclair (Michael O'Hare) who took over the leadership of the group as Anla'shok (Ranger One). Following the destruction of the Narn by the Centauri in October, 2259, Captain John Sheridan (Bruce Boxleitner) gained co-control of the Babylon 5 division of Rangers with Minbari Ambassador Delenn (Mira Furlan). Training bases (the main base is on Minbar) were seeded throughout the galaxy to help gain support for their organization. Ranger training involved advanced studies in martial arts, appreciation for the values of respect, compassion, and to face and use terror as a weapon. They learn that for one's actions to be pure they must proceed from direction, determination, patience and strength. When involved in serious fighting the Ranger called upon Den'Sha, the "fight to the death" and the art of Denn'na, or pike fighting. They did all this in Valen's name, an ancient prophet who once saved the Minbari's homeworld against the aggression of a race called The Shadows. The saga of the Rangers continued on the spin-off series THE LEGEND OF THE RANGERS that premiered on the Sci-Fi Network on January 19, 2002.
