Igor the bat -
Transylvanian-born bat seen on the sitcom THE MUNSTERS/CBS/1964-66. Igor
was the pet bat of Count Dracula (a.k.a. "Grandpa"), an aging
350-year vampire (Al Lewis), who lived at 1313 Mockingbird Lane with his
monster relatives, the Munsters. Igor lived in the basement laboratory
where Grandpa Munster carried on his bizarre experiments. Grandpa kept
Igor as a reminder of the Old Country. "You're nothing but a rat with
wings" Grandpa said affectionately. Once Lily Munster (Yvonne DeCarlo)
said of Igor "He's always throwing tantrums. Sometimes I think he's
nothing but a spoiled bat." In episode No. 20 "Bats of a
Feather" Grandpa Munster substitutes himself for Igor so Eddie has a
pet for his school pet fair. Unfortunately, he ends up being the reluctant
participant in a animal space travel experiment. Igor's once fell in love
with a bat named Cleo. In reality, Igor was nothing but a rubber bat that
dangled on a string.
