The CBS TV-Movie Gauguin the
Savage (1980) starred David Carradine as
the French primitive artist, Paul Gauguin
(1848-1903) who spent his last years in the
South Seas. The movie showed the artist
painting a brown-skinned Tahitian girl on the
beach. Three shots of full frontal nudity were
seen during the telecast.
In 1983, the first TV series to
show actor's "bare" their behind in a locker
room scene was the NBC baseball team drama THE
BAY CITY BLUES.

episode "Moon for the Misbegotten" (9/30/1987)
on the medical series ST.
ELSEWHERE/NBC/1982-88 staff physician Dr.
Donald Westphall (Ed Flanders), frustrated
with the new administration that had taken
over St. Eligius Hospital, pulled down his
trousers and mooned Dr. John Gideon (Ronny
Cox) saying "You can kiss my ass, pal." On the
4/27/1988 episode of ST. ELSEWHERE doctors
performed surgery in the nude. TRIVIA NOTE: On
October 4, 2005, comic Dane Cook
kissed the butt
of Charlize Theron (with her permission) on
'The Tonight Show' starring Jay Leno. The
topic of kissing came about because Theron has
planted an adoring kiss on the buttocks of
actress Shirley MacLaine during a Premiere
Icon Party a few days earlier.
In
1987 Playtex Bras premiered the first
commercials with real lingerie models
displaying their wares (bras and underwear) on
national television. The days of brassiere
draped mannequins and models wearing bras over
a dress were over. Skin was in baby, Yeah!
In February 1989 Network TV
broadcast a cowboy's penis (for less than a
second) during the opening credits of LONESOME
DOVE, a CBS four-part adaptation of Larry
McMurtry's novel about a cattle drive.
