General Urko - Gorilla military leader of a
futuristic society of evolved simians on the science fiction series THE PLANET
OF THE APES/CBS/1974.

General Urko was charged with hunting down humans so they could be modified and
controlled. When a couple of human astronauts from the year 1988 -
Alan Virdon (Ron Harper)
and Pete Burke (James Naughton -
time-warped their spacecraft in this futuristic landscape of
A.D. 3085, General Urko and his minions of gorillas on horseback searched the countryside
to find and capture them. Mark Lenard played the role of Urko in the TV series.
TRIVIA NOTE: The TV series is based on the novel "Planet of the Apes" by Pierre Boulle.

The animated series RETURN TO
THE PLANET OF THE APES/NBC/1975-76 continued the franchise of the 1974 TV
series.
In the film Planet of the Apes (1968), gorilla General Urko (James Gregory) declared, “The only good human...is a DEAD
human.” James Gregory as Ursus repeated the same sentiment in the sequel
Beneath the Planet of the Apes (1970).
