S.I.D. - Acronym for
"Space Intruder Detector," an orbiting satellite with white and
red striping that scanned the vastness of space for incoming
alien spacecraft on the British syndicated sci-fi series U.F.O./SYN/1972.
SID transmitted its findings to S.H.A.D.O. (Supreme
Headquarters, Alien Defense Organization), a multi-nation alien
defense complex with secret bases on Earth and the lunar
landscape. The voice of S.I.D. was provided by BBC newscaster
Nel Oxley.
TRIVIA NOTE: On the adventure series KNIGHT RIDER/NBC/1982-86 the
term SID referred to Satellite Infiltration Drone, a bugging
device created by Bonnie Barstow (Patricia McPherson) to be used
by KITT, the supercar to get into places its automotive body
could not access.
