S.I.D. - Acronym for Space
Intruder Detector, an orbiting satellite with white and red
striping that scanned the vastness of space for incoming alien
spacecraft on the British syndicated science fiction series U.F.O./SYN/1972. The voice of S.I.D. was provided by BBC newscaster Neil Oxley.

SID transmitted its findings to
S.H.A.D.O. (Supreme Headquarters,
Alien Defence Organisation), a multi-nation alien defense complex
with secret bases on Earth and the lunar landscape.

On the adventure series KNIGHT RIDER/NBC/1982-86 the term SID
referred to Satellite Infiltration Drone, a bugging device created
by Bonnie Barstow (Patricia McPherson) to be used by
KITT, the
supercar to get into places its automotive body could not access.
