Bud "Ice"
Penguin - Advertising mascot for Anheuser-Busch that appeared
in a series of "Beware the Penguins" TV spots in 1996. Like a "Cookie
Monster" of the Bird set, the demonic Bud "Ice" Penguin sought out beer
drinkers to take away their beer. When the penguin arrived on the scene,
its eerie, subtle trademark catchphrase "Dooby, dooby, doo" struck fear
into the hearts of the onlookers. Soon after Anheuser-Busch broadcast
their penguin campaign, the nationally-known
mens wear manufacturer Munsingwear (parent company of Supreme
International Corp.) cried fowl and demanded that Anheuser -Busch Company
stop using the penguin to promote its beer because they feared consumers
may confuse their own smartly-dressed
Munsingwear Penguin (a registered trademark since 1959)
with the creepy Bud "Ice" Penguin. The
Munsingwear group did not want to tarnish their reputation with such an
association and because they do "not wish to promote the use of
alcoholic beverages"
