the Venusian - Mild-mannered navigator (Al Markim) of the
rocket ship Polaris on the 1950s children's sci-fi adventure series TOM
CORBETT, SPACE CADET/CBS/ ABC/NBC/1950-55. Sporting a crew-cut hair
style, this alien was a former enlisted space sailor on commercial
rockets, who later joined the corps of Space Cadets. He was
affectionately called a "Venusian swamp lizard" by his fellow crew
member, Radar man Cadet Roger Manning (Jan Merlin). Astro is
prototype for the Mr. Spock character on the Star Trek series.
