 Gorgon - A malevolent,
pock-faced being who deceived a band of Earth children in
assisting him with his plans of interplanetary conquest on the
episode "And the Children Shall Lead" on the sci-fi series STAR
TREK/NBC/1966-69. When a select crew of the USS Enterprise beamed
down to the surface of the planet Triacus to visit with a
settlement of Earth colonists, they found instead the dead remains
of the adult population. Only the children had survived and they
were under the spell of Gorgan (Melvin Belli).
Using illusions and
mind control techniques Gorgan disguised as the "Friendly Angel"
convinced the children they must gain control of the orbiting
starship. However, the children were released from his deadly
influence when they were shown video tapes of themselves playing
with their parents, who were killed via Gorgan's powers. With
their recognition of his evil, the power and the form of this
horrible monster faded away.
