 Kelvans - Inhabitants of the
planet Kelva located in the distant Andromeda Galaxy on episode
No. 50 "By Any Other Name" on the sci-fi series STAR
TREK/NBC/1966-69. While on a return trip to their home planet, a
group of Kelvans were shipwrecked. When the USS Enterprise
arrived on the scene, the Kelvans commandeered the Federation vessel and
continued on their three hundred year journey home.
To take control of the starship, the hijackers had to adopt human
form. This transformation was their downfall, since their own
bodies (tentacled creatures) lacked a sophisticated nervous system
which prevented them from enjoying physical stimulation. The crew
of the Enterprise used this fact to their advantage to stimulate
them (via sex and drugs) into submission.
The Kelvans had seized control of the Enterprise by dehydrating
all unnecessary crew members to the size of a small cubes which
contained all their component chemicals. The crew was
restored to their original form after Captain Kirk regained
control of his starship.
