Dean Martin's Celebrity Roasts - This NBC award show had its origin on THE DEAN MARTIN SHOW/NBC/1965-74 which featured a segment called "Man of the Week Celebrity Roast" telecast in 1973. Seated at a banquet table, one by one the guest of honor was affectionately insulted about his career by his fellow celebrity friends. Some wouldn't consider being insulted much of an award, but it was all done in fun. Don Rickles, a favorite funny man and prankster attended many of these functions. Some of his classic insults included: "Come right in Frank (Sinatra). Make yourself at home...Hit somebody!" Sinatra once said of Rickles "I like Don Rickles, but that's because I have no taste."
