Pepsi
Cola
- The favorite carbonated soft drink of Laverne De Fazio (Penny Marshall) and
Shirley Feeney (Cindy Williams) on the sitcom LAVERNE AND SHIRLEY/ABC/1976-83.
Laverne, however, liked to mix milk into her Pepsi. Shirley, Laverne's roommate
wrote this message in Laverne's high school year book. "If in heaven we don't
meet, Hand in hand we'll bear the heat. And if ever it gets too hot, Pepsi Cola
hits the spot!" The quote was a variation on an original Pepsi-Cola radio jingle
from the 1930s that said: "Pepsi-Cola hits the spot; Twelve full ounces, that's
a lot. Twice as much for a nickel, too; Pepsi-Cola is the drink for you." At the
time, Pepsi's competitor Coca-Cola was selling only six-ounce bottles of soda.
Pepsi-Cola was invented in 1898 by pharmacist Caleb Bradham. In 1904, Caleb
Bradham began bottling Pepsi-Cola in the New Bern, North Carolina plant.
