Comedy Variety Program - The first comedy variety program on television was
THE ADMIRAL BROADWAY REVUE broadcast on both NBC and DuMont networks from
January 28th through June 3rd, 1948.
The program's sponsor (Admiral
Television) could not keep up with the demand for the television sets orders
generated by their advertisements, so they canceled their program.
This was
the first time a program was canceled because it was too successful. The
program showcased the talents of comedians Sid Caesar, Imogene Coca, Marge
and Gower Champion, Bobby Van and Judson Laire.
