Broadcast Firsts

Comedy Variety Program - The first comedy variety program on television was THE ADMIRAL BROADWAY REVUE broadcast on both NBC and DuMont networks from January 28th through June 3rd, 1948.

The program's sponsor (Admiral Television) could not keep up with the demand for the television sets orders generated by their advertisements, so they canceled their program.

This was the first time a program was canceled because it was too successful. The program showcased the talents of comedians Sid Caesar, Imogene Coca, Marge and Gower Champion, Bobby Van and Judson Laire.
