 The Magic School Bus -
On the Scholastic Productions, Inc. animated children's program THE
MAGIC SCHOOL BUS/PBS/FOX/1994 science teacher extraordinaire, Ms.
Frizzle (voice provided by Lily Tomlin) takes her students on field
trips in a magic school bus to illustrate the science concepts she
discusses in class.
Luckily, Ms. Frizzle's school bus can literally go
anywhere, including inside the human body to explore how our organs
(heart, etc.) work; underground to explore the earth's crust; and
into outer space to learn about planets and asteroids. On one
episode, the magic school bus miniaturizes the class so they can
explore an anthill and discover the secret world of insects.
The kids traveling aboard the magic school bus
included Carlos (Daniel DeSanto), Phoebe (Maia Filar), Keesha (Erica
Luttrell), Dorothy Anne (Tara Meyer), Ralphie (Stuart Stone), Arnold
(Danny Tamberelli), and Wanda (Lisa Yamanaka).
The series was based on the books written by Joanna
Cole and illustrated by Bruce Degen. 1950s rocker Little Richard
sang the program's theme song.
