MALLORY, Quinn
(Sliders)
San Francisco, CA
Quinn is a brilliant college student.
Nicknamed “’Q’ Ball,” he accidentally
created a strange portal while trying to
create an Anti-Gravity device that enabled
him to “slide” from one dimension to
another. His discovery posed the questions:
“What if you found a portal to a parallel
universe? What if you could slide into a
thousand different worlds where it's the
same year and you're the same person, but
everything else is different? And what if
you can't find your way home?” |

Quinn controlled access to these parallel worlds
using a hand-held remote control device that
opened up a wormhole to other realms and then
closed after a preset time. If you didn‘t jump
through the wormhole before it closed, you got
stuck in an alternate world. (A similar
hand-held device appeared on the 2007 sci-fi
series FLASH GORDON. It gave portal access to
"dimensional rifts" between Earth and the Planet
Mongo.)
When Quinn revealed his discovery to his
blustery physics teacher Professor Maximillian
Arturo, they conducted a test trip and quickly
got sucked through the access portal along with
a reluctant Rembrandt “Crying Man" Brown, a
former soul singer and Wade Wells, a female
friend who worked at a video store. Landing in
an alternative world where tornados savaged the
landscape, they barely escaped back into the
portal but were not returned to their own Earth
but another parallel universe where history had
taken different paths. Now, Quinn, Arturo,
Rembrandt and Wade frantically began an odyssey
to get back to their original home world [Earth
Prime].
Their journeys took them to alternate worlds
where the Russians conquered the USA; where the
British won the Revolutionary War; where the USA
was at war with Switzerland; and where everyone
in America was addicted to virtual reality or
turned into zombies. When Professor Arturo was
killed by Col. Angus Rickman on an alternate
California and Wade was captured and sent to a
breeding camp, Maggie Beckett, an ex-military
officer enlisted with the sliders when her own
Earth was destroyed.
Once Quinn and company managed to return to
Earth Prime but after reading a newspaper
article claiming that the Cleveland Indians made
it to the World Series and O. J. Simpson was
accused of murder [they left before it
happened], they departed thinking it was an
alternate Earth.

During their travels they encountered a myriad
of characters including an evil female Quinn,
[who got lost in a random dimension] and a nazi-like
group of a warrior sliders named the Kromaggs
who had taken over Earth. Quinn later discovered
that his real parents [Dr. Michael and Elizabeth
Mallory] were “sliders” and they had left him in
the custody of the woman he had called mother
for years. He also discovered a microdot implant
that revealed the location of his other brother,
Colin who lived on an Amish-type world as well
as the clues for a machine that would help
defeat the marauding Kromaggs.
In a freak accident Quinn got a new look when
his body merged with another slider and the
resulting collisions formed a composite that
looked different from Quinn yet contained his
very essence. The same accident shattered Colin
into a million supposedly un-retrievable pieces.
Now teaming up once again with a Rembrandt,
Maggie and a black scientist named Dr. Diana
Davies, the new Quinn a.k.a. “Quinn 2” battled a
variety of new and old enemies.
The last we heard of Quinn 2 and his gang of
Sliders, they had arrived on a alternate world
where they were the focus of a religion called
Slidology. This bizarre society was founded by a
man with psychic abilities who had been
following the Sliders and their exploits.
Unfortunately, he predicted that when Quinn2 and
his friends next "slid" they would die. How's
that for a cliffhanger?
