The Powerpuff Girls(tm) and copyright 2003 Cartoon Network LP, LLLP. A Time Warner Company. All rights reservedChemical X - The mysterious chemical that spawned a trio of super-powered little girls on the Cartoon Network sci-fi animated series THE POWERPUFF GIRLS/CAR/1998-2004. The Powerpuff Girls were the creation of Professor Utonium, a teacher of quantum physics and micro-nuclear fusion at Townsville Research Center. One day in his laboratory, he gathered together all the ingredients ("Sugar, spice and everything nice") to create one wonderful little girl  But unfortunately, the professor's lab monkey assistant accidentally dropped "Chemical X" into the mix and instead of one perfect little girl, the mixture produced three super-powered little girls, namely Blossom, Bubbles and Buttercup, (a.k.a. "The Powerpuff Girls").

Chemical X gave the karate chopping Powerpuff Girls the powers of super-strength, flight, super-speed, heat vision, and the ability to generate energy blasts from their tiny bodies.

When not battling evil, the girls attended Pokey Oaks kindergarten in Townsville, USA with their favorite teacher Ms. Keane.

Theme Song Lyrics

Sugar, spice, and everything nice
These were the ingredients chosen
To create the perfect little girls
But Professor Utonium accidentally
Added an extra ingredients to the concoction--
Chemical X
Thus, The Powerpuff Girls were born
Using their ultra-super powers
Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup
Have dedicated their lives to fighting crime
And the forces of evil

Blossom (a red-head) is the leader of the Powerpuff Girls; Buttercup (black hair) is a tough, hotheaded tomboy; and Bubbles (a blond) is the sweetest in the bunch. Later in the series, there was a fourth Powerpuff girl named Bunny with brown hair, and purple eyes. She was created by the Powerpuff Girls to help them with their crime fighting duties, but Bunny's molecular structure soon became unstable and exploded.

TRIVIA NOTE: Blossom, Bubbles and Buttercup  appeared in the feature length cartoon The Powerpuff Girls (2002). The movie's tagline was "Saving the world before bedtime".

The Powerpuff Girl's franchise also inspired a Nintendo 64 3-D fighting game called "Chemical X-Traction" in which the villainous monkey Mojo Jojo intends to feed slices of a pie filled with Chemical X to various villains in Townville. It's up to the Powerpuff Girls to retrieve the pie and prevent the bad guys from becoming more powerful.

On July 1, 2006, an updated version of THE POWERPUFF GIRLS debuted in Japan. Called "Demashitaa! Powerpuff Girls Z," the Japanese cartoon is a collaboration between Cartoon Network, Toei Animation, Aniplex, and TV Tokyo. The Powerpuff Girls in this new adaptation are a still cute, but a bit older - and they now carry weapons. See also - "Milton the Monster's Formula"
