Bedrock - Prehistoric town featured on
the animated cartoon series THE FLINTSTONES/ABC/1960-66. Bedrock
(pop. 2500) is the home of Fred Flintstone, a quarry worker and his
wife, Wilma. They live at 201 Cobblestone Way in Cobblestone County,
Bedrock 70777. Also living with the Flintstone's are their two pets,
a purple Snorkasaurus named
Dino and a saber-toothed cat named "Baby
Puss." The Flintstones's best friends and next-door neighbors are
Barney and Betty Rubble.
Fred and Wilma later had a bouncing baby
red-haired girl named Pebbles [her first words were "Abba Gabba Goo"].
Barney and Betty then adopted a powerful towheaded baby boy left on
their doorsteps. They called him Bam Bam.
Years later, Pebbles and
Bam married each other. They had twins: Roxy, a towhead who
inherited her father's super strength and Chip, a redheaded boy. The
Flintstone's other next-door neighbors were the Gruesomes: Wierdly,
Creepella and their son Goblin.

Theme Song Lyrics
Flintstones... Meet the Flintstones,
They're a modern stone age family.
From the town of Bedrock,
They're a page right out of history.
Let's ride with the family down the street.
Thru the courtesy of Fred's two feet.
When you're with the Flintstones,
have a yabba dabba doo time,
a dabba doo time,
we'll have a gay old time.
Like most town's, Bedrock had a number of businesses such as
Bedrock's newspaper The Daily Slab; the Slate Rock and Gravel
Company (where Fred worked as a dino-crane operator); the Drive-In
movie (where "The Monster" is playing at the beginning of each
show); the Drive-in restaurant that serves Fred a giant serving of
barbecued ribs (that tips over Fred's car at the end of
each show); the local fraternity called the Royal Order of the Water
Buffaloes (where Fred and Barney are members); and the Rockapedic
Hospital (where Pebbles Flintstone was born on February 22, 10,000
B.C. at 8:00pm. – she weighed 6 pounds, 12 ounces).

TRIVIA NOTE: The FLINTSTONES series
inspired a theme park called Bedrock City. Located in the town of
Custer, South Dakota along West Highway 16 and Highway 385, this TV
inspired theme park is a concrete recreation of the prehistoric town
of Bedrock on the animated series THE FLINTSTONES/ABC/1960-66.
Founded in 1966, the site includes such attractions as a statue of
Dino the Dinosaur at the front entrance, Flintstone-style buildings
and live-costumed performers of Fred and Wilma Flintstone and their
friends Barney and Betty Rubble.
Visitors can chow-down as the
Bedrock Drive. Its menu features Bronto Burgers, Dino Dogs, and
Chick-a-Saurus sandwiches.
Similar tourist attractions designed
after the Stone Age town of Bedrock can be found in the town of
Valle, Arizona along the road to the Grand Canyon; and in the Smokey
Mountain town of Sevierville, Tennessee.
