General, The - Supercomputer on episode No. 6 "The General" on the spy adventure THE PRISONER/CBS/1968-69. When the residents of The Village are exposed to a subliminal speed-learning process, some of the Village residents attempt to destroy the mind control  project including The Professor, its creator who warned "If you wish to be free, there is only one way. Destroy the General." With the help of Number Twelve (John Castle), Number Six (Patrick McGoohan) tried to sabotage the project but was beaten unconscious. He was later interrogated but refused to give up his accomplices. To discover who was behind the plot, Number Two (Colin Gordon) consults The General and brags that the computer can answer any question. Taking him up on his challenge, Number Six types four characters on a piece of paper and feeds it into The General, which suddenly goes haywire and self-destructs. What destroyed the computer? A simple question. According to Number Six "It's insoluble...for man or machine....W-H-Y QUESTION MARK. Why?"
