Simpsons Cartoon Home Giveaway - On a quiet street in Henderson, Nevada, lurked a real-life replica of the cartoon home featured on the animated comedy THE SIMPSONS/FOX/1989+. Decorated by Hollywood set designer Rick Floyd, the $100,000 recreation of Homer Simpson's Springfield, USA 2,200-square-foot cartoon castle sported an iridescent yellow exterior and an interior kitchen decor of 26 brilliant colors. The 12-room home (to be repainted after the giveaway) was raffled off at the end of the September 21st, 1997 premiere episode (minus the 2000 Simpson knick-knacks inside the home). The winner was Barbara Howard, a 63-year-old Kentucky great-grandmother. The house's was built by Kaufman and Broad Home Corporation who sponsored the contest along with Fox network and Pepsi. The house's chief architect was Manny Gonzalez. TRIVIA NOTE: In 1989, there was a CBS Sweepstakes contest called "For Love And Money" that featured the ranch home on the drama DALLAS. Their ad read: "Keep Up With The Ewings: Win a Texas Ranch House in the style of Southfork or $250,000 cash." Grand Prize home was built by Perry Homes, a leading home builder in the Dallas area.
