Steve Allen's Song Writing Contest - When comedian Steve Allen was working at KNX radio, he had a conversation with singer Frankie Laine about the difficulties of writing songs. Allen, a prolific writer and creative genius in his own right, told Lane that he didn't see the problem. Steve said he could write 350 songs a week. Laine disagreed with him and made an on-air bet of a thousand dollars that Allen couldn't compose 50 songs a day for seven days. Accepting the challenge, Allen sat in the show window of Hollywood's largest music store, turned on a tape recorder and ad-libbed until he created 50 songs a day and won the bet.
