Are
You Hungry, Dear? - Written by actress Doris Roberts, the combination
autobiography and cookbook draws it title from the signature phrase used by the
character Marie Barone, whom Roberts, now in her 70s, plays on the sitcom
EVERYBODY LOVES RAYMOND/CBS/1996-2005.On the show, Doris appears as the narcissistic but
attentive Italian-American mother from hell of sportswriter Ray Barone. Whenever
Ray visits his mom's home, she always asks "Are you hungry, Dear?"
Doris Robert's autobiography cleverly combines tasty recipes from her own
kitchen with advice and reminiscences from her life that includes her 40-year
career, two marriages, various love affairs, and struggle to raise her son while
building a successful acting career.
The recipes in the book include lasagna, chicken crepes, and flourless
chocolate cake.
The book's publisher St. Martin's Press summarizes their celebrity
biography/cookbook saying "Are You Hungry Dear? (Life, Laughs and Lasagna) is
for everyone who loves a laugh, a great recipe, and a true inside glimpse of the
life of a very approachable star."
