Urkel, The - Steve Urkel, the nerdy black teenager
on the sitcom FAMILY MATTERS/ABC/CBS/1989-98 performed a dance of his own
creation at a school function. Called the "Urkel" it went something like this:
"If you wanna do the Steve Urkel dance, all you have to do is hitch up your
pants, bend your knees and stick out your pelvis, I'm telling you baby, its
better than Elvis..."
The dance is accompanied by a cheap disco beat and included moves that drop to
the ground backwards and fingers that point to the sky, ending with Steve's
irritating snorting Hee, Hee, Hee laughter. Jaleel White who played Steve Urkel
performed his dance at the opening number of the 1991 Annual Comedy Awards and
even got hostess Bea Arthur into the act.
