  Death - Miscellaneous

Larry Hagman as J.R. Ewing - DALLASJ.R. Ewing - J.R. Ewing (Larry Hagman), the reprehensible oil millionaire on the prime time soap opera DALLAS/CBS/1978‑91 was shot by an unknown assailant on the final episode of the 1979-80 season. Bookies around the world took bets on the burning question "Who Shot J.R.?" On November 21, 1980 at 10:00 PM on CBS, the answer to whom pulled the trigger was revealed. It was Kristin Shephard (Mary Crosby), Sue Ellen's Sister. Pregnant with J.R.'s illegitimate child, Kristin shot J.R. in an act of revenge for trying to force her out of Dallas and attempting to frame her for prostitution. The program broke records by drawing a 53.3 rating and 76 share. Unfortunately, J.R. survived his death plot and went on to terrorize even more people for another ten years until his character was terminated via TV cancellation in 1991 (he supposedly committed suicide in the final episode, but returned in later DALLAS made-for-TV movies).
