Morty MooseMorty the Moose - Pensive Alaskan moose that wandered across the opening credits of the quirky rural drama NORTHERN EXPOSURE/CBS/1990-1995. The scenes of Morty walking leisurely about town were accomplished by fencing in the whole town of Rosyln (where the show was filmed) and letting Morty saunter freely through the streets-occasionally luring him around with bananas and willow leaves. Morty, originally found at Washington State University, was trained by veteran animal handler, Anne Gordon. For a days work, Morty reportedly received a cool $5,000. Morty's girlfriend was Minnie the Moose. Reportedly, Joshua Brand, co-producer of the show kept a pint-size wooden version of Morty on the bookshelf of his Santa Monica office. In 1994, Morty the Moose died at the age of 6 of an illness linked to cobalt and mineral deficiencies.
