Mr. PeabodyMr. Peabody - Mr. Peabody - Intelligent white talking beagle seen on segments of "Peabody's Improbable History" on the animated cartoon series ROCKY AND HIS FRIENDS/ABC/1959-61.

Mr. Peabody (voice of Bill Scott) wore a red bow tie and black-rimmed glasses. He owned a small orphan boy named Sherman (voice of Walter Tetley) that Mr. Peabody found on the streets. According to Mr. Peabody "If a boy can have a dog, then a dog can have a boy."

Together, Mr. Peabody and Sherman traveled through time in the WABAC Machine to study and set straight the outcome of history. "Hello, out there. Peabody here" is heard at beginning of each adventure.

At the end of each journey Mr. Peabody would tell Sherman some terrible pun. For example, while visiting Isaac Newton, we discover his brother Figbey Newton invented the "Fig" Newton; and on visit back in time to William Tell we learn that William Tell's eye trouble inspired "TEL-evision"

TRIVIA NOTE: According to Bill Hurtz, the program's director, during an interview segment of the documentary Of Moose & Men: The Rocky & Bullwinkle Story, the character of Mr. Peabody was inspired by movie actor Clifton Webb, whose screen characters were often "smug, snide, and condescending."
