Namor the Sub-Mariner - Merman featured on the animated
anthology series THE MARVEL SUPERHEROES/SYN/1966-1968. The program was produced
by Steven Krantz of Krantz Films and Bob Lawrence of Grantray-Lawrence
Animation.

The Sub-Mariner shared the stage with Iron Man, Mighty
Thor, Captain American and the Incredible Hulk as they alternately starred in
195 six-minute cartoons based on characters appearing in Marvel Comics. The
Sub-mariners fought such villains as Dr. Doom, Attuma and Warlord Krang. John
Vernon provided the voice of the Sub-Mariner.
The Sub-Mariner is the son of Leonard McKenzie, Captain of the U.S. ice breaker
Oracle, and Princess Fen of the Royal House of Atlantis.
Known also as Namor MacKenzie and Subby, the Sub-Mariner is a hybrid mutant with
great physical strength, the ability to breath in and out of water and fly with
help of small wings on his feet.
Created in 1939 by Bill Everett, the Sub-Mariner character has been seen as both
a hero and villain over the years. He fought the Nazi's in the 1940s and
ecological violators in the 60s and 70s. A theatrical movie based on his
character is scheduled for release in 2008.
The Sub-Mariner segment opened with these lyrics:
Theme Song Lyrics
Stronger than a whale
He can swim anywhere
He can breathe under water
And go flying through the air
The noble Sub Mariner
Prince of the deep
So, beware you deadly demons
Lord Namor of Atlantis,
Is the Prince of the Deep.
