Fonzie's Trademark 'Thumbs Up' GestureFonzie's Thumbs Up Gesture - Arthur "Fonzie" Fonzarelli  (Henry  Winkler), the ultra-cool garage mechanic on the sitcom HAPPY DAYS/ABC/1974-84 would always greet people with his classic thumbs up gesture followed by a resounding "Aaaayyh!" Winkler's thumbs up gesture was inspired by tales of Roman Gladiator's that he heard in his 10th grade history classes (thumbs up and down gestures determined the life or death of defeated gladiators). Winkler also created an intermediate gesture in between the up and down thumbs gesture that meant "I'm not so sure." Female rock and roll singer Leather Tuscadero (Susy Quatro) who also appeared on episodes of this 1950s based sitcom had a distinctive greeting. She slapped the thigh portion of her leather pants twice, then quickly pulled up her hand and pointed her index finger at whoever she greeted as if shooting a gun.
