  Greeting Catchphrases

"Hello, NEWman" - Disingenuous greeting of standup comic Jerry Seinfeld to his neighbor, Newman (Wayne Knight) first spoken on episode No. 34 "The Boyfriend" (2/12/92) on the sitcom SEINFELD/NBC/1990-98. Newman was an overweight postal worker (introduced on episode No. 32 "The Suicide" 1/29/92) who lived in Jerry's apartment building. Jerry thought Newman was the devil incarnate and avoided contact at all cost. When they did meet, both greeted each other with reluctance and disdain  (imagine a stinky, distasteful "Eeeew" when pronouncing the "New" in Newman.) Although the reasons behind Jerry and Newman's mutual hatred were not revealed, Jerry did explain once that "Superman had his Lex Luthor. He's mine."
