 Screaming Mimi - Nickname of the pink but
well-worn Sikorsky S-58T helicopter owned by Cody Allen (Perry
King) and Nick Ryder (Joe Penny) on the detective drama
RIPTIDE/NBC/1984-86. Both former Vietnam veterans turned private
eyes, Cody and Nick used the Screaming Mimi while investigating
their cases. The front of the Screaming Mimi sported a painting of
a large gaping mouth complete with upper and lower teeth and a
huge set of pink lips (a sort of flying Mick Jagger). The rusty,
smoke belching helicopter with drooping rotor blades used on the
series was originally found in Van Nuys Airport covered with
primer.
