Uncle Gruesome - A ghoulish parody of late night
horror show hosts on the early morning program THREE TO GET READY (7:30-9:00 AM)
on station WPTZ network in Philadelphia in the 1950s.
Dressed in a black cape, dark fright wig and fangs, Uncle
Gruesome (Ernie Kovacs) told tales of horror to his faithful
viewers.
During one episode, Uncle Gruesome related a story with "dolls that could
bite right through your finger with their canine teeth, dolls that slithered
along the floor, and dolls that exploded when you touched a remote control
button...What won't they think of next?"
His nephews were named Loathsome, Cumbersome and Unwholesome. Ernie
resurrected this ghoulish character on KOVACS UNLIMITED/CBS/1952-54.
