Werewolves are mythical wolf-like
creatures purported to be humans who transform into wild bloodthirsty
animals via witchcraft or magic that roamed the night when the full moon
shined bright. They could only be defeated by a silver bullet or hitting
them with some kind of silver object. Werewolves were also afraid of the
scent of garlic and wolfbane. To discover which humans were potential
werewolves you need only to look at the palm of their hands for the sign
of the pentagram and an over extended ring finger. One of the earliest
examples of werewolves in films was the silent film production of The
Werewolf (1913) and White Wolf (1914). The most memorable film
werewolf appeared in the Universal movie The Wolf Man (1941) as Lon
Chaney, Jr. played Lawrence ("Larry") Stewart Talbot, a.k.a. the Wolf Man
(makeup by Jack Pierce).
