Mr. Do Bee - Yellow and black bee with
bouncing antennae seen on the 1950s kiddie show
ROMPER ROOM/SYN/1953-94 originally hosted by
nursery-school teacher Nancy Claster [replaced
by Claster's daughter Sally in 1964].

"I always do everything right.
I never do anything wrong.
I'm a Romper Room Do Bee
A Do Bee all day long!"
The "Mr. Do Bee" (and "Mr. Don't Bee")
characters were used to help pre-school children
learn the differences between right and wrong.
The viewers were encouraged to show
proper behavior by learning the mantra: "Do Be a
'Do-Bee'. Don't Be a 'Don't-Bee'!" Sung to the
waltz melody "Ach Du Lieber Augustine" ("Oh My
Dearest Augustine"), the lyrics for "Did You
Ever See A Do Bee?" song heard on the show read:

Did you ever see a Do Bee,
A Do Bee, a Do Bee?
Did you ever see a Do Bee
Go this way and that?
Go this way and that way
And this way and that way.
Did your ever see a Do Bee
Go this way and that?
Did you ever see a Do Bee,
A Do Bee, a Do Bee?
Did you ever see a Do Bee
Go this way and that?
Turn this way and that way
Turn this way and that way.
Did your ever see a Do Bee
Turn this way and that?
Did you ever see a Do Bee,
A Do Bee, a Do Bee?
Did you ever see a Do Bee
Go this way and that?
Bow this way and that way
Bow this way and that way.
Did you ever see a Do Bee
Bow this way and that?
Did you ever see a Do Bee,
A Do Bee, a Do Bee?
Did you ever see a Do Bee
Go this way and that?
Raise this hand and that hand.
Raise this hand and that hand.
Did you ever see Do Bee
Raise this hand and that?
Did you ever see a Do Bee,
A Do Bee, a Do Bee?
Did you ever see a Do Bee
Go this way and that?
Wave this hand and that hand
Wave this hand and that hand.
Did your ever see a Do Bee
Wave this hand and that?
Did you ever see a Do Bee,
A Do Bee, a Do Bee?
Did you ever see a Do Bee
Go this way and that?
Clap this way and that way
Clap this way and that way.
Did your ever see a Do bee
Clap this way and tha-a-a-a-t?
Above lyrics are from the 1966 "Romper Room
Sing-A-Along Party" LP record produced by Little
World Records, New York, Midnight Music, Inc.
The 45 RPM "Romper Room Do and Don't Bee Song"
put out by Cricket Records and sung by Judy
James and Bobby Colt originally cost only
.29cents.
TRIVIA NOTE: The Romper room was also
franchised nationwide and therefore many
children will remember seeing a different host
of the program. The evolution of the DO BE goes
as follows: "Yabba Dabba Do - Fred Flintstone;
"Do be a do bee" - Miss Louise, Romper Room; "Do
be do be doo" - Frank Sinatra.
