Schlameel - Yiddish word heard at the beginning of each
episode of the sitcom LAVERNE AND SHIRLEY/ABC/1976-83.

As Laverne De Fazio (Penny
Marshall) and Shirley Feeney (Cindy Williams) skip down a Milwaukee sidewalk
they chant:
"1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8 Schlameel, Schlamazel Hassenpepper Incorporated" (Lyrics from
"Making Our Dreams Come True" by Norman Gimbel & Charles Fox).
The significance of the words were never disclosed, but were more than likely
the remembered words of a shared childhood ritual. "Schlemiel" is Yiddish for "a
fool, born loser"; "Schlimazel" is Yiddish for "a loser or unlucky person"; and
"Hassenpepper" is a reference to a German rabbit stew ("Hassenpfeffer").
Laverne & Shirley Theme Song
We’re gonna do it!
Give us any chance, we’ll take it.
Give us any rule, we’ll break it.
We’re gonna make our dreams come true.
Doin’ it our way.
Nothin’s gonna turn us back now,
Straight ahead and on the track now.
We’re gonna make our dreams come true,
Doin’ it our way.
There is nothing we won’t try,
Never heard the word impossible.
This time there’s no stopping us.
We’re gonna do it.
On your mark, get set, and go now,
Got a dream and we just know now,
We’re gonna make our dream come true.
And we’ll do it our way, yes our way.
Make all our dreams come true,
And do it our way, yes our way,
Make all our dreams come true
For me and you.
