Paul Shaffer & 'The World's Most Dangerous Band' - The name of the late night musical group on LATE NIGHT WITH DAVID LETTERMAN/NBC/1982-93 and so dubbed by the program announcer at the beginning of each show. The group's rock 'n' roll ensemble was lead by a balding Canadian born keyboards Paul Shaffer (formerly of SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE) whose camp and often corny banter with the show's star David Letterman was one of the program's recurring elements. The support players included Anton Fig on drums; Will Lee on bass guitar; Sid McGinnis on guitar; Felicia Collins on guitar and Bruce Kappa and Tom "Bones" Malone on horns. When the program moved to the CBS network in 1993, there was talk of calling the group "Paul Shaffer and the Party Boys of Rock 'N Roll" but they were renamed "Paul Shaffer and the CBS Orchestra." The group produced a CD entitled "The World's Most Dangerous Party."
