Mighty MouseMighty Mouse - Powerful flying mouse on the cartoon series THE MIGHTY MOUSE PLAYHOUSE/CBS/1955-66. Mighty Mouse first appeared in Paul Terry's animated cartoon The Mouse of Tomorrow (1942). Inspired by the Superman character, Mighty Mouse (voice of Tom Morrison) told the story of the humble mouse who ate a piece of Supermarket Super Cheese and was transformed into "Super Mouse" (later renamed "Mighty Mouse") a powerful diminutive rodent who battled the many cats who terrorized his town. Mighty Mouse wore a flowing red cape, flew through the air, and deflected bullets off his oversized chest. When coming to the rescue, he entered the scene by singing "Here I come to save the day!" The villain Oil Can Harry often threatened Mighty's girlfriend Pearl Pureheart (in movie cartoons) and Mitzi (in comic books/TV series). The Mighty Mouse comic book debuted in Terrytoon Comics No. 38, 1945 with a story created by Isidore Klein (a.k.a. "Paul Terry"). Mighty Mouse returned to television in a new series of cartoons entitled THE NEW ADVENTURES OF MIGHTY MOUSE AND HECKLE AND JECKLE/CBS/1979-82 and MIGHTY MOUSE: THE NEW ADVENTURES CBS/1987-89.

THEME SONG

Mister Trouble never hangs around
When he hears this Mighty sound.
"Here I come to save the day!"
That means that Mighty Mouse is on his way.
Yes sir, when there is a wrong to right
Mighty Mouse will join the fight.
On the sea or on the land,
He gets the situation well in hand
