TV Guide Movie Rating Guidelines - TV Guide magazine gives summaries of current TV programming as well as movies airing on both cable and regular networks.

TV Guide

Movies found in TV Guide are indicated by the symbol M and by a rating system of asterisks:

  • **** (Excellent)
  • *** (Good)
  • ** (Fair)
  • * (Poor)

The movie ratings are based on such factors as critical reviews, cast and director, awards earned as well as box office performance.

Movies appearing without asterisks ratings are made-for-television movies or unrated movie.

TV Guide Rating also includes the official Motion Picture Association of America, Inc. content ratings (G, PG, PG-13, R or NC-17 and NR: not rated) as well as Parental Guidance advisory ratings such as adult themes, sexual situations, strong language, violence or nudity.
