  Nudity - 1950s

  • THE TODAY SHOW host Dave Garroway unintentionally let his private parts wave on television while performing in a musical sketch. He was not aware that his zipper was down.

  • Faye Emerson's trademark was a low plunging neckline. One evening in the 1950s, her dress slipped and exposed "The Girls" from coast-to coast. While many were concerned over her propriety of wearing low-cut dresses, she had many male viewers who took her side in the furor. A similar instance happened one evening in 1951 to Dagmar (Virginia Ruth Egnor) when her strapless gown slipped off her bosomy body, exposing her private parts.

  • Ina Ray Hutton of the INA RAY HUTTON SHOW/NBC/1956 was the star of her own musical variety program which featured "Her All-Girl Band." One night while enthusiastically conducting her orchestra, one of her breast's fell out of her gown.

  • Jayne Mansfield - OOP!Jayne Mansfield, the beautiful, buxom blond actress accidentally exhaled her breast's out of her dress during the telecast of the Academy Awards in 1957.

  • Nudity apparently appeared on THE SOUPY SALES SHOW in the early years, but only Soupy Sales saw the naked lady. This "Naked Lady" appeared during a regular sketch when Soupy answered the door of his clubhouse and began talking with whomever had knocked at the door. Standing offstage, the unseen visitor would talk to Soupy who often got a pie thrown in his face for his troubles. Once during the "door" skit, the stage crew brought in a totally nude dancer to stand in for the usual visitor. Speechless, Soupy watched the monitor and thought the whole thing was actually being broadcast live to his viewing audience and that his career was over. Luckily, the whole affair was a closed-circuit broadcast and no one but the stage crew and Soupy were ever to know until it became a popular story to tell years later
