Born Innocent - The NBC
made-for TV movie Born Innocent (1974) told the
violent story of a 14-year-old girl (played by Linda Blair
of Exorcist fame) who was raped with a broomstick handle
while in custody at a juvenile detention center. The
graphic depiction of the brutal act (which aired at 8:00
P.M.) and the ensuing complaints to government regulators
forced a congressional hearing in 1975. Eventually, the
"family viewing time" was legislated so that younger
audiences would no longer be subject to such sexual
materials in the early hours of the night.
